Lisa Brown’s Hypocrisy
SPOKANE, WA - Today, the Spokane Good Government Alliance responds to Lisa Brown's hypocritical statement on the Spokane City budget.
“It’s incredibly rich that these words are coming from Lisa Brown,” said John Estey, Executive Director of the Spokane Good Government Alliance. “It is just more empty words from a failed politician. Her record as a state legislator and as the Director of Commerce demonstrates that”.
Lisa Brown doubled the budget and headcount of the Washington State Department of Commerce, voted to raise taxes by 1.6 billion during her time in Olympia, sued the voters in an effort to raise taxes, supports a state income tax, all this from the person whose nickname in Olympia was Tax ‘Em Brown. Further, the Washington State Auditor found that under Lisa Brown’s leadership, the Department of Commerce had significant problems with how they monitored, or more accurately, didn’t monitor COVID-19 relief dollars and other federal money they awarded to other organizations.
“When Lisa says Spokane families are hurting and can’t afford another tax, does she mean to suggest the taxes she promoted and implemented are hurting Spokane families? If yes, we agree.” Estey continued. “Lisa taxed her way out of every problem when she was in the State Legislature - Spokane voters can expect more of Tax ‘Em Brown if she is elected”.
The Spokane Good Government Alliance was formed in 2019 to advocate for a balanced local government that best serves the Citizens of Spokane. To learn more, please visit our website here: spokanegoodgovernmentalliance.com.
