If Spokane Voters Want a Safe Community, They Don’t Want Paul Dillon

SPOKANE, WA -  Continuing its analysis of Lisa Brown’s radical slate of candidates record on law enforcement, the Spokane Good Government Alliance released a statement highlighting Lisa Brown’s radical handpicked candidate for Spokane City Council Paul Dillon

“Whether it’s his support of defunding the police or his advocacy to get rid of qualified immunity, Paul Dillon is no friend of law enforcement,” said John Estey, Executive Director of the Spokane Good Government Alliance. “Despite feverishly scrubbing his personal social media accounts when he decided to run for public office, Dillon missed a few doozies. Voters should know that Dillon was employed by an original signatory of the Defund the Police movement and he proudly retweeted calls to defund the police.”

“Paul Dillon can try to hide his true beliefs about our hardworking police men and women from voters but there is only one candidate endorsed by law enforcement in this race. And it’s certainly not Paul Dillon. If voters want a City Council that supports the police to keep our neighborhoods safe, then they should vote for Katey Treloar.”

Here are other ways that Paul Dillon goes out of his way to make our families LESS safe:

  • Despite overwhelming support and requests from the East Central neighborhood, Paul Dillon joined Betsy Wilkerson in protesting a police precinct going into the East Central Neighborhood.

  • Dillon is endorsed by SCAR, and has made social media posts supportive of the organization’s Platform for Change, which explicitly calls for Defunding, Disbanding, and Demilitarizing the Police.

  • Dillon supported and advocated for Treatment First Washington’s platform to decriminalize drugs.

  • Dillon opposes Proposition 1 - which will ban encampments within 1,000 feet of schools, parks, playgrounds and daycare facilities.

  • Not only is he fine with having garbage, drug paraphernalia and needles where kids learn and play - Dillon doesn’t even think voters should have a say on the matter.

  • In fact, Dillon doesn’t believe in any sit and lie laws and has pledged to dismantle them if elected.

DEFUNDING THE POLICE

QUALIFIED IMMUNITY

DOESN’T THINK VOTERS SHOULD HAVE A SAY ON PROP 1 (Tweeted shortly after an Appellate Judge removed Prop 1 from the ballot, which was later overturned).

DECRIMINALIZING DRUGS

“Make no mistake, public safety is on the ballot this November,” Estey continued. “Voters are entitled to know where Dillon stands on critical issues like public safety. No matter how much he tries to give lip service to the issue, one thing is clear, we can’t trust Paul to keep our community safe.”

The Spokane Good Government Alliance, formed in 2019, is a broad and bipartisan group of Spokane citizens and community leaders advocating for a balanced local government that best serves all the Citizens of Spokane.
