Can We Trust Lisa Brown and her Radical Slate of Candidates to Support Law Enforcement?
SPOKANE, WA - The Spokane Good Government Alliance released the following statement regarding Lisa Brown and the anti-law enforcement track record of her radical slate of candidates.
“Make no mistake, public safety is on the ballot this November,” said John Estey, Executive Director of the Spokane Good Government Alliance. “Voters need to know which candidates they can trust to keep Spokane safe. For years Lisa Brown, Betsy Wilkerson, and their radical slate of candidates have been supporting anti-police policies, candidates, organizations and even promoting defunding the police.”
Estey continued, “But now that it’s election time, Brown and company have apparently decided that ‘Defund the Police’ isn’t just dangerous policy, it’s bad politics too. The truth is, if we can’t trust them to tell us the truth about their beliefs, how can we trust them to put the safety of our community first?”
Over the coming days, we will take a closer look at each of Lisa Brown’s recruits, and their views on the men and women of law enforcement.
First, let’s take a look at Lisa Brown’s close ally and candidate for Spokane City Council District 3. In a recent article by The Inlander, Klitzke feigned concern for overworked police officers during a recent ride along. On her website, she states that she wants to fully fund first responders, but her words and actions tell a completely different story.
“The hypocrisy is deafening. During her police ride along did Kitty share with the overworked officer that she’s a rampant advocate and financial supporter of defunding the police?” Estey asked.
In reality, Klitzke…
Signed a Defund the Police petition.
Lobbied a Spokane City Council Member to Defund the Police.
Personally donated (multiple times) and encouraged others to do the same, to a defund the police organization.
Proudly participated in a Defund the Police march, even holding a sign calling for defunding the police.
“Lisa Brown and Betsy Wilkerson recruited Kitty Klitzke because they know they can count on her vote to enact their radical, anti-police agenda. Just like Brown and Wilkerson, Klitzke will say one thing and do another. We can’t trust Klitzke to keep our community safe.”
Background:
Brown, Klitzke, and Wilkerson say publicly they support police funding, but privately they are backed by and accept support from radical anti-police groups like SCAR, PJALS, and FUSE. These groups have explicit goals as part of their platforms or pledges to defund and disband the police, or “redirect” police funding.
Brown and Wilkerson supported Natasha Hill for Congress, a Defund the Police activist.
Brown is a longtime member of PJALS, which has endorsed the SCAR platform.
Klitzke served on Brown’s 509 Forward Sponsored by Lisa Brown for Congress PAC, which made a number of contributions to local candidates who supported Defunding the Police: Betsy Wilkerson, Zach Zappone, and Naghmana Sherazi.
Wilkerson protested the placing of a police precinct in East Central, despite support from neighborhood leaders.
Wilkerson defunded police drug investigations.
Klitzke is endorsed by Councilman Zach Zappone, a sitting City Council member who has signed a pledge to defund the police.
The Spokane Good Government Alliance, formed in 2019, is a broad and bipartisan group of Spokane citizens and community leaders advocating for a balanced local government that best serves all the Citizens of Spokane.
