Welcome Back to Spokane, Lisa Brown

The Spokane Good Government Alliance releases a statement on former Washington State Commerce Director, Lisa Brown, announcing her candidacy for Mayor of Spokane.

“Spokane needs a leader in the Mayor’s office who is going to prioritize public safety, housing, and homelessness. Not a hyper partisan activist who only cares about her next political move,” said John Estey, Executive Director of the Spokane Good Government Alliance. “Brown has been on the wrong side of every issue Spokane has faced over the last several years. From homelessness to public safety to economic development…Lisa has been missing in action.”

“She’s already honorary Mayor of Camp Hope, now she wants to bring her ultra progressive priorities to the Spokane Mayor’s office. She has an abysmal record as the Director of the state department tasked with solving homelessness. She did nothing to stop the state’s largest homelessness camp from forming on Washington State-owned land. She ignored pleas from East Central residents and business owners as crime ravaged the neighborhood.  She delayed the closure of “Camp Hope” while she funneled $24 million taxpayer dollars to her political cronies’ organizations to mitigate the camp…which remains open today.” Estey noted.

“If you ask anyone in the State of Washington if homelessness has gotten better in the three years that Lisa Brown has been Director of the Department tasked with solving homelessness, the answer will be a resounding NO.” said Estey. “Spokane families deserve safety and security - they are not going to find it with Lisa Brown.  Her record makes that painfully obvious.”

While serving as a State Senator, Brown voted to reduce supervision of convicted murderers and sex offenders upon their release from prison and voted against legislation that prevented sex offenders from living within a quarter mile of schools. She supports radical anti-law enforcement non-profits, including the Spokane Bail Project - which covers bail for repeat offenders.  Brown voted to increase taxes nearly $2 billions dollars, she championed raising our gas tax by 63%, and has repeatedly advocated for a state income tax despite voters saying no….twice. While cities and counties have been advocating for fixes to the drug enforcement and police pursuit loopholes, Lisa’s voice has been completely absent.

“Brown may have a Spokane address, but her beliefs on critical issues make it clear that she really only prioritizes the parts of Washington State that can be viewed from the top of the Space Needle.” Estey continued. “Brown is hard on taxpayers and soft on crime.”

The Spokane Good Government Alliance was formed in 2019 and advocates for a balanced local government that best serves the Citizens of Spokane.  To learn more, please visit our website here: spokanegoodgovernmentalliance.com.
